Case 01
Interior designer for a Bukit Timah GCB renovation
Challenge
Client wanted a statement powder room with a custom mosaic referencing Peranakan tile patterns, but needed it designed, sourced, and installed within a twelve-week window to match the main contractor's handover schedule.
Approach
We developed a bespoke geometric mosaic in honed Calacatta and Verde Alpi, issued shop drawings within ten days, coordinated directly with the tiling subcontractor on-site, and delivered all materials in one shipment nine weeks after brief sign-off.
Outcome
Powder room became the hero image in the ID's portfolio; client referred two neighbouring GCB projects within six months. Lead time held to the day.
Case 02
Design practice serving a Sentosa Cove bungalow owner
Challenge
Master bathroom required floor-to-ceiling bookmatched marble feature wall, but previous supplier (a volume importer) could not guarantee vein continuity across four 1200x2400mm slabs or commit to a fixed delivery date.
Approach
We travelled to the Portuguese quarry, selected and photographed the exact slabs, arranged bookmatching on-site, and managed customs and freight with contractual delivery milestone tied to the builder's waterproofing schedule.
Outcome
Feature wall installed as specified, no vein mismatch, no programme slippage. ID now specifies Tessellate Studio in every landed brief where stone is the primary material.
Case 03
Boutique ID firm working on a Holland Village terrace house
Challenge
Client brief called for sustainably sourced, low-VOC surfaces across kitchen and wet areas, but most suppliers could not provide quarry-level traceability or Singapore climate performance data.
Approach
We specified ethically quarried Portuguese limestone with full chain-of-custody documentation, honed and sealed with low-VOC product rated for wet-area slip resistance (R10), and issued care instructions tailored to Singapore humidity.
Outcome
Surfaces met client's sustainability criteria without compromise on aesthetics or durability; ID cited the material traceability in their award submission for the project.
